Der W around frontman and Böhse Onkelz lyricist Stephan Weidner plays two almost sold-out club tours within a few months - full throttle, full power, full contact. Huge euphoria, gigantic intensity. Evenings that will be talked about for a long time to come. And now the plug is being pulled. DER W is going on an acoustic tour in May 2024, for the first time ever in the 17th year of the band's history. The fans and the fun of their own work have carried DER W to the emotional climax of the band's history these days and that is precisely why it is to continue with new great emotions. Twelve concerts in eleven cities are on the programme.
‘The last concerts were great, I've never had so much fun on stage in the history of W as I have in the last few months. The band was wonderful, the people were great, everything was ultra-intense,’ says Weidner on the departure into a whole new acoustic Uni-W-sum. ‘But that's exactly why now is the right time to do something completely new: The feeling is different, but the intensity remains the same. A new stimulus. Our time is too short for routine, we always want something special! And what we have created is great.’
Weidner and his band perform open-heart surgery on well-known songs to breathe new life into them. And all this on an open stage. This is a big task, and DER W takes everything that is needed for it: Strings, piano, but also drums, guitars, bass. There will be a lot of old hits in a new guise, of course. Some songs simply belong to a Der W show, with or without electricity. Weidner promises that the essence of the songs will remain the same. ‘Everything we celebrate will be there. And all in a new dimension. We don't yet know exactly what it will feel like, but we promise special, intense evenings.’
The venues will provide their very own magic. The acoustic tour will take DER W 2024 to some of the most beautiful venues in the country, where the band has already had the pleasure of experiencing fantastic evenings. And then there are all these extraordinary venues, each with their own charm and great history. Hand-picked venues with their own soul and appropriate to the occasion. Filling all these halls with music and creating great moments together will be special. ‘Every evening will be a little adventure together. A journey of discovery that we invite everyone in front of the stage to join us on,’ says Weidner. ‘I couldn't wish for better companions on this journey into the unknown than the friends and followers of DER W.’
