About Nicko McBrain
Nicko McBrain is one of the most influential drummers in the history of rock and heavy metal. Born in 1952 in the London borough of Hackney, Michael “Nicko” McBrain discovered his passion for the drums at an early age and gained his first stage experience in school bands and as a young semi-professional. After stints with bands such as Streetwalkers, the Pat Travers Band, and Trust, his path led him to the studios of London’s Soho—and ultimately to one of the world’s most influential metal bands.
In 1982, Nicko McBrain joined Iron Maiden and, with his powerful, technically brilliant, and unmistakably expressive playing, became a key figure in classic heavy metal. Over the course of 42 years, he shaped the band’s sound across 14 studio albums, numerous live releases, and worldwide tours. As part of Iron Maiden, Nicko McBrain was part of a career that has sold over 100 million records and reached generations of rock and metal fans.
Today, Nicko McBrain is opening a new chapter. In his autobiography, Hello Boys And Girls!, he looks back on defining moments of his life: his early years on the drums, his time with Iron Maiden, humorous backstage stories, personal challenges, his recovery from a near-career-ending stroke, and his passions offstage. As a musician, storyteller, and public figure, Nicko McBrain remains an exceptional figure—approachable, energetic, and firmly grounded.
